I am writing this month's journal with much excitement and amazement... we have come so far in the last year! As I hope you have all noticed, the light posts have been installed and actually work! This has been a long process, but the end result has made it worth it. I came downtown the night they were first turned on, and was so excited to actually have lit sidewalks! Then, I was surprised the next morning by receiving an email from Kim McGee, thanking us for the lights!! She walks every morning and mentioned what a blessing it was to have the lighted area for security and to

help with the decor of the town as well. The horse heads and flowerpots have been erected as well. I just need to thank all of the community minded people that helped with all of these tasks over the last few years...none of these would have been possible without your help! I guess I have one thing to say..."dreams do come true!!!" I can remember being a shop owner about six years ago with the twinkle of light posts, hanging signs with iron brackets, a bike trail, a gazebo, more horse heads and flowerpots in the back of my mind... and now it is all coming true! Of course, we still have some obstacles, but without those, who would appreciate the goals we have achieved? So, I ask you to really look at town with new eyes and enjoy what we have done and where we are going..."together we can make a difference in your community!"

Juli

note: "Congratulations to DBI's mainstreet manager, Juli Dull, for her scholarship from the DCED to attend the first ever Governor's Conference on Tourism in Gettysburg, PA. It was a very informative conference which would not have been possible without the support of DCED."

Many Thanks to...

Miller's Greenhouse for their donation of flowers in front of the office and for the centerpieces at Girl's Night Out. Also to the Bedford borough workers for setting the posts for the horse heads. A big "thank you" goes to Mark Jones and Pam Griffith of Jones' Welding for making all of the new flowerpot brackets and donating their time to weld on all of the horse heads. They look great!

Downtown Bedford has benefited from the collaborative efforts of the Bedford Lions Club and the 21st Century After school Program. The kids in the 21st Century After school Program painted the flower pots and planted flowers. The Bedford Lions Club then put up the brackets throughout town. The Unified Family Services Systems gave $1,000. in grant money to DBI towards the purchase of the new brackets as well. Thanks to everyone for making Bedford a more beautiful place to live and work!!

LIFeSTYLE

On April 26th we celebrated one year of LIFeSTYLE in Bedford. It has been a wonderful year, surpassing all we could have imagined. We have not been just selling wonderful Italian products but we have also been able to share our culture with our customers. One way has been through our tasting classes. We have been able to teach the culture of our products not only by talking about them, but by touching, smelling, and tasting...now that's an experience! Taking that same idea another step further, our cooking demonstrations with Chef Finarelli have been a great success. He teaches by demonstrating how to use each of our products by creating incredible dishes.

One of the things we appreciate most about our store is the flexibility it provides to us. Through all our different events the store just adapts itself, allowing the possibilities to be endless. The products are no longer center stage but act as the backdrop for a perfect evening, enhancing the atmosphere for whatever the event might be. One of the highlights of this past year was hosting Guliano Hazan for one of our cooking demonstrations. It was such an exciting moment to see this well-known chef here in Bedford. Bedford is great and growing greater all the time. The number of new businesses that we have seen open just in this year has us in awe. Seeing Bedford grow in this way has encouraged us to think about how we as a business can keep growing. We have decided that we want to continue to share the experience and culture with our customers through food. But, we want to take things a step further, through an actual Italian dining experience.

We are taking the business to the next level. We are installing a full commercial kitchen in the retro of our shop and Friday nights (exception of holidays) we will be serving a traditional Italian experience. No menu, one price for a meal full of different courses, just like what would be experienced in an Italian home. We will require reservations, to keep things intimate. There will be one long table where customers might be seated next to people they don't even know. Though, we are certain, after this experience they will no longer be strangers. We want our customers to enjoy more than a meal but a wonderful night out.

We will be cooking with all the products that we carry in the shop. We want to be able to share our recipes with our customers. There won't be any secret ingredients, so our customers can go home and repeat what they have enjoyed. We will be serving a traditional choice of dishes, nothing too fancy, just great quality and extremely tasteful. Our kitchen will most likely be finished by June. We are looking forward to sharing this experience with Bedford and our customers from near and far. We will be notifying customers on our mailing list with the opening date, but we do encourage new customers to call for more information. (814.623.2703)

We also want to take this opportunity to thank Bedford and our customers for this great year and for giving us one of our greatest experiences.
